Case Study Coffee
Case Study Coffee is a strong choice for your weekend coffee destination. They have 4 locations in Portland so you are likely not far away from an opportunity to have a house-roasted espresso drink in a laid back atmosphere perfect for catching up with a friend or doing some work over the weekend.
We headed to the NW location on 23rd which is located in a converted house with high ceilings, tons of character in the molding and trim, and a wide set of stairs leading up to the coffee shop entrance from the street. When the weather get’s warmer you will find tables and chairs set outside for additional seating options.
This was a particularly rainy weekend in March so we were happy to enjoy our coffees inside at a small table tucked back into one of the two rooms connected to the main entry and ordering counter.
The teal scalloped counter is home to a menu of traditional espresso and matcha drinks, various alternative milks, and fresh bagels and pastries to round out your order. The pastries are made by Sparrow Bakery and Shoofly Vegan Bakery and have a great balance of sweet and savory to choose from.
In addition to the regular menu, Case Study often has unique seasonal drinks that are always worth a look. Today we ordered an americano with steamed soy milk and a seasonal rose cardamom latte that we were excited to try.
The coffees are served in hearty mugs that lend itself to the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere you sit down to enjoy them in. The americano is strong and smooth with a nice bit of foam on top from the steamed soy. The rose cardamom latte was subtle which is the case for other flavored lattes we have tried from Case Study. Not too sweet with just a hint of spice from the cardamom and a faint unique flavor that might be
hard to place without seeing rose in the name of the drink.
We have consistently had good coffee and experiences at Case Study – always been able to have a leisurely coffee date at a quiet table with enough space between us and other customers to enjoy good drinks and good conversation.
